1938

Where it began

My grandmother was born in 1938 in a small town, during a time when life was a little slower and beautiful things were meant to be kept. She has always had a certain spirit about her, curious, independent, sentimental, and with an eye for things that others might overlook. Perhaps that is where this story really begins: with a woman who knew that the smallest things could hold the biggest stories.

1960s

A collection is born

In the 1960s, my grandmother began collecting jewelry, and she never really stopped. Over more than six decades, what started as an appreciation for beautiful things became a collection of remarkable size and variety. There are pieces from different eras, styles, and materials, all gathered because something about them caught her eye.

Her collection is wonderfully eclectic. There are delicate pieces and bold ones, treasures that are immediately recognizable and others that require a little detective work. Some are valuable for their materials or craftsmanship, while others are special simply because of their age, their history, or the story she remembers about finding them. There is always another box, another drawer, another little treasure to uncover, and somehow, there always seems to be another piece I haven't seen before.

What makes the collection so fascinating to me isn't just how much of it there is, but how much of her is in it. Her curiosity, her eye for beauty, and her appreciation for things that matter can be found throughout. It is the kind of collection that invites you to slow down, look closely, and wonder where each piece has been before.

1991

Where my story meets hers

Jewelry has been part of my world for as long as I can remember. As a child, I spent hours playing in my grandmother's collection, long before I understood the history or craftsmanship behind what I was holding. I just knew there was always something interesting to discover.

Years later, when she gave the collection to me, I found myself with the wonderfully overwhelming task of cataloguing it all. And there is so much. What began as an attempt to organize thousands of pieces quickly became an education of its own. I began researching dates, construction, gemstones, makers, and the stories behind the jewelry, discovering an entirely new way to engage with something I had loved since childhood.

In many ways, it also brought together the different parts of my own life. With a Master's degree in Creative Writing and more than ten years as an educator, I have always been drawn to stories, history, research, and the ways we make meaning from the things we leave behind. Jewelry simply gave me another kind of story to tell.

Today

A timeless beginning

Today, Rose Garland Jewelry is my way of sharing my grandmother's incredible collection with the world. My grandmother and I still source together, continuing the tradition she started more than sixty years ago. I also seek out fine antique and vintage pieces of my own, always looking for jewelry with exceptional craftsmanship, character, and a history worth preserving. The collection spans eras, styles, and price points, because I believe there should be something special to discover at every level.

Rose Garland is both a deeply personal collection and a growing business, and I hope it will continue to evolve in both ways. I want to build something lasting, a place where someone might find a tiny treasure they can wear every day, or a truly exceptional piece they will keep for generations. I have big dreams for where this company can go, and I am learning more with every piece I find. There is so much more to discover... and I'm excited for everything still to come.
