Simple magic - this Victorian crescent is marked 900 silver and set with graduated antique paste stones. It has been thoughtfully converted from a brooch into a necklace on a 16" gold filled chain.
A little history on paste: before costume rhinestones as we know them today, paste was beautifully hand-cut cut glass made to imitate diamonds and other precious stones. In the Victorian era, good paste was often foil-backed to give it that incredible glow and sparkle by candlelight.
