A striking signed Panetta necklace from the golden age of American costume jewelry. Designed with elegant gold-tone curves, sparkling rhinestone accents, and deep black cabochon drops, the necklace has a wonderfully dramatic, almost midnight quality.
Panetta was founded in New York in 1945 by Italian-born designer Benedetto Panetta, who became known for creating exceptionally well-made costume jewelry with the glamour and presence of fine jewelry. His designs were celebrated for their elaborate construction, quality materials, and sophisticated use of rhinestones, glass, and colorful cabochons. Today, signed Panetta pieces are collected for their distinctive designs and craftsmanship.
This necklace is especially beautiful in its arrangement of sweeping gold-tone links, pavé-style rhinestone accents, and five graduating black cabochon drops. At approximately 15 inches, it has a wonderful collar-length silhouette that sits beautifully at the base of the neck.
The piece remains in very good vintage condition, with the expected gentle signs of age and wear consistent with a previously loved vintage piece. The rhinestones remain wonderfully bright, and the dramatic black cabochons give the necklace an elegant, slightly mysterious quality.
A beautiful example of signed Panetta costume jewelry, glamorous, sculptural, and made to be noticed.
